Job creates 'Sarina' times for Vincent

Twenty-one year old Vincent from Bermondsey now has a self-confidence, real work experience and a new career in retail according to Denise Barnes, manager of Sarina Russo Job Access Southwark.

Vincent's adviser, Asha Vaghella, said after three years of unemployment Vincent is now working at The British Red Cross with a more positive and career focussed attitude.

"Vincent's life changed after Sarina Russo Job Access secured him a voluntary work placement with a retail charity shop as part of the Community Taskforce programme," Asha said.

Vincent admits no real life work experience, poor motivation and a lack of confidence was holding him back.

"To be honest I was not 100% committed to searching for a job but thanks to Sarina Russo I've got a job and I'm really enjoying the structure and routine it gives me on a day-to-day basis," Vincent said.

Asha said Vincent started at Sarina Russo in the hope he would get an understanding of the working environment and boost his experience and skills.

"Vincent feels the voluntary work experience placement helped him to gain a better understanding of working in a retail environment," Asha said.

Vincent said the placement certainly built his skills and abilities as he learnt various tasks, which he is keen to transfer to a new job in retail.

"Working in retail is something I can and want to do, and I now have the confidence and skills to work my way up the ladder."
