A wise project helping Stanmer Park jobseekers

The Outdoor Work and Learning (OWL) work experience project is helping local Brighton jobseekers improve their work skills and confidence.

Local jobseeker Paul has benefited greatly from work experience provided by this outdoor and hands-on project.

Paul was actively involved in several projects including the design and building of a tipi for the teaching area of Stanmer Park's Community Farm. He learned the importance of teamwork, following clear instructions and most importantly a good work ethic. As his placement progressed he was encouraged to work with minimum supervision.

Under the OWL programme participants like Paul undertake a range of activities from garden watering, maintenance of vegetables and fruits to sell wholesale to local restaurants, building community tipis, painting farm equipment, maintenance of farm equipment and clearing of areas for seasonal re-planting.

In addition, participants will learn on-the-job health and safety practice.
